"Weyrwoman Rhosyn," Genna smiled as she approached the copper-haired
goldrider. "I heard you were around, it's nice to see you again." She
wondered what River Bluff's Weyrwoman was doing at Dragonsfall, but she was
sure she would find out soon. Hopefully the woman had time for a chat, last
time they had met she had found her - to her surprise - quite pleasurable
company.
She had finished seeing Saibra and was now free to roam the Weyr until she
was ready to go back. With the cool air, she was actually taking her time.
Spotting Genna, she remembered the young goldrider and nodded easily when
she saw her coming. **She's quite pretty. I'm sure the young bronzers
around here are taking notice.** "You too Genna and congratulations to you
and Lissath. I hear she did well for her first. And was it well for you?"
She remembered their previous conversation and hoped it had been.
"It's been wonderful so far," Genna said cheerfully, her face practically
glowing with pride. "Lissath's clutching was the most amazing experience in
my life so far. Well, apart from our impression maybe. I'm now wondering if
the hatching will be even better."
"Oh it will. And don't forget to get a new dress for it. A goldrider's
first Hatching is an excuse to indulge a bit. You also get to work with
your Headwoman to plan the celebration which is fun." Rhosyn's favorite
part had always been picking out the menu.
"Oh yes, I've got the most gorgeous dress picked out for the occasion. They
should be putting on the final touches as we speak," Genna smiled proudly.
"Dress to impress, right?"
"Indeed. You have a very valid excuse. Besides, you'll be the center of
attention so you have to do the Weyr proud." Rhosyn nodded her head,
thinking again of her own first Hatching. She didn't think Genna would make
the same social mistakes she had. The girl had been a holder and was
clearly not cut from the same cloth. **She'll be fine.**
"Exactly," Genna said with a grin. "And the celebrations.. I'd never
expected there was so much planning involved. My head is still spinning
from my last meeting with our Headwoman."
"Mmm each hatching is different since each Weyr and each rider is
different. My Headwoman knows most of my preferences by now, though, so
there's not much for me to do beyond give permission. With you, since it's
your first-you have to go over everything. It's a good experience though
since you learn more of what it takes to a manage a Weyr in a small way."
Rhosyn had had a more accurate view of resources when she realized just how
much went into just a Hatching.
"Oh yes, it's definitely a learning curve," Genna grinned. "Is it true the
finest wine is usually reserved for the start of the party and the lesser
quality stuff gets pulled out when everyone is too drunk to notice? I was
shocked and amazed to learn about that tactic."
"Depends on the Weyr and the Headwoman. Dragonsfall has more access to wine
since the vintnerhall is in your territory. However, I know Hygalia used to
have a private reserve she kept especially for important guests with the
better quality wine. I don't know if Saibra does the same. Now, I actually
have a small vintner operation started at my Weyr about a turn and a half
ago maybe. They're working on things but it means I have a larger supply
than I used to for Hatchings and the like. Still, the climate in my
territory is different than the climate here so it lends more to a
different type of alcohol-like quikal, ale, beer, and grog." The River
Bluff Weyrwoman was actually very proud of her little vintnering operation
and found it easier than requesting the finished product in tithe.
"That sounds interesting," Genna smiled. "I'm only just getting to know
some of the stronger stuff. I was never allowed much more than a small
glass of wine before."
"Then go slowly. Hard liquor can cause problems sometimes if you're not
used to it." Rhosyn had seen a few riders that had become addicted to the
stuff and it had caused accidents. Not everyone was meant for the drink.
"Yeah, so I've heard," Genna nodded. "I'm not too keen on embarrassing
myself in public, so I never try more than a glass on any given night."
"Sometimes I act like I'm drinking it but I'm not really. Satisfies most
folk. Especially since people will offer you drinks and try to toast you
multiple times." She hadn't known that when she was younger and it had led
to problems.
Genna nodded, she'd done that once or twice before. "Or take a small sip
and ditch the rest when they're not looking," she grinned.
"Exactly. Sounds like you've already got on. Then again you've attended a
Hatching already." Rhosyn nodded knowingly. "Well my dear you probably have
duties to attend to. Don't let me keep you. But do let me see you again.
Your bright attitude does wonders for my composition." A broad smile
crossed her face and inwardly Rhosyn was wishing she could steal Genna from
Saibra. **What a nice young girl**
"Yes, I'd love to keep in touch," Genna said with an honest smile. "But at
least we'll see each other at a hatching sooner or later. Be well,
Weyrwoman Rhosyn."
