Almost Fixed

Writers: Avery, Chelle
Date Posted: 1st August 2015

Characters: Sarban, Zakis
Description: Zakis updates the Steward on the pipes.
Location: Emerald Falls Hold
Date: month 13, day 10 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: Delynn, Zandan

This time Zakis was showing up to the Steward's office in much better
spirits. He waited to be called in, carrying a map of the newly-fixed
sections in his hand...and a copy of other papers too, which he wanted
to discuss with the man. But first things first.

"Come in," came the customary greeting. With the annual Gather
approaching, he found himself quite busy. He wasn't as busy as Delynn
was, but it was bad
enough. And then there was Zandan and this painting problem. Sarban didn't
understand that at all.

Zakis entered the office and nodded politely. "I have some good news for
you, Steward, about the pipes problems. We've got the parts, we've
started the repairs, and it will be resolved by Turn's End."

"Thank Faranth. For once someone has got good news. Tell me, while
you're doing the repairs, do you need to shut off the water at any
time?" Usually when they did that, they set up a schedule so they could
alert the holders and staff.

"We'll need about two candlemarks to replace the biggest section. I
figured I'd come see when was most convenient. You probably want it soon?"

"Oh aye. Might be easier even to do it at night when we don't need the
water as much if you can manage the lights to see by." Sarban didn't
know how it worked but he thought that would be less disagreeable for
the holders.

Zakis thought about it. "We'd need a stash of spare glows to use for
extra light. I know there aren't as many around in Holds with
electricity, should I check with the Headwoman? Otherwise, we could do
it right at dawn or right at sunset."

"Aye you can ask her. We can collect some for the purpose. Give the brats
something
to do." And Faranth knew they could use something constructive to occupy
their time
and keep them out from underfoot.

"If we tell them it'll help save Turnover, that should motivate them,"
Zakis suggested with a bit of a smile. "So I'll talk to the Headwoman
about getting the glows. You announce the shutdown a couple days in
advance so people know. Meanwhile we'll finish everything we can do
without it first, and then in a sevenday, it's all done."

"Thank you Zakis, I appreciate the efficiency." With everything else he
had to worry about, he was glad this was not one of those things despite
the dire consequences that could ensure without it being fixed.

"I'll report back when it's done," Zakis promised. He was happy to keep
the Falls running.
