Will Anything Change?

Writers: Heather, Avery
Date Posted: 31st July 2015

Characters: Talwynn, D'kere
Description: D'kere and Talwynn talk after Lissath's flight.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 13, day 7 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: Genna, J'darin

Talwynn had been interested in the outcome of Genna's first flight
from a vaguely detached perspective. The junior flights weren't as
important as the senior queen's, because they didn't affect the
leadership. But they still led to hatchings and were fun to speculate
about.

}:Kenirath won,:{ Riveth interrupted her. The green's tone sounded a
little put out.

There went that plan. Her stomach flip-flopped with a mix of emotions.
A sharp spike of jealousy rose within her imagining him in flight-lust
with Genna - pretty, curvy Genna, with long lady's hair and two
working arms. A goldrider who could give his bronze eggs to hatch new
baby dragons. Genna, who was everything she wasn't. And there was
D'kere with her, right now, as their dragons fell -

The image made her snarl, gave her the impulse to grab one of the
losing men and work off her own feelings with him instead. But she
fought it down, recognizing that it was irrational. This wasn't her.
It was just the goldflight, the feelings of lust that stirred. And her
own damn proddiness. A look out her weyr at Riveth's hide confirmed
that.

Talwynn took the time to wander down to the kitchens and pick up a
light dinner. A drudge helped her carry it back to the weyr. She'd
wait for him to be done and come back, and greet him with a smile.
After all, it was a big moment for him.

D'kere still had a stupid grin on his face as he was leaving the
bathing pools. After most flights he usually went about his day and
business as if nothing had happened, but winning a _gold_ flight
wasn't something that happened every day, and for Kenirath, it was the
first time ever he had managed to snag a saffron beauty.

Speaking of which, the bronze was still happily curled about "his"
queen, sending very proud and content thoughts to D'kere as the
Weyrlingmaster's Second strode through the corridors leading to
Talwynn's weyr. He wasn't necessarily sure what her reaction would be,
but he was too excited about Kenirath's siring a clutch to not talk to
_someone_ and Talwynn was the most important person in his life, so
why wouldn't he share it with her?

"Hey!" He spoke, his eyes glowing, a relaxed air of contentment
rolling off him, even as he raked his fingers through his still
drying, dark golden hair.

Talwynn had had enough time to wrestle her feelings of inadequacy into
a chokehold, so when D'kere arrived she was able to smile at him. "I
have a little nice wine left and I got us some snacks.
Congratulations to Kenirath," she said.

D'kere crossed over to Talwynn and bent to kiss her enthusiastically,
"Thank you. Kenirath is quite pleased with himself, and so am I. I
never thought he would be the sire of a clutch," he added a wink to
that and lowered his voice, "don't tell him that, though." There were
just so many strong bronzes at Dragonsfall that D'kere had never
really thought they would get lucky enough to win.

"Is it going to be weird to be training the ones he sired?" she asked him.

"I don't think so, if anything it will probably make me more
protective of them. I'm not saying I haven't cared about this group
I'm working with now, but not to the same extent as J'darin, for
instance. When the dragonets come directly from Kenirath, though.... "
He sat down and helped himself to some of the wine that she had
offered.

"It's going to be special," she agreed, pushing away the small spike
inside her that winced. "I'm so proud of you."

"Thank you, Kenirath gets all of the credit, of course." D'kere was
slightly surprised by how pleasant Talwynn was being over the entire
situation, considering the lovely glow that Riveth was sporting.

She didn't want to think too long about how much time D'kere would
probably be spending with Genna once Lissath clutched. Instead she
blurted out, "You'll still have time on rest days, right?"

D'kere was nearly caught off guard by the unexpected question. He
hadn't really given that any thought. "I don't see why not." He was
sure that Kenirath would be spending all of his free time hanging on
Lissath's every word, and bringing her whatsoever she desired as she
grew egg heavy.

"Good. I really like spending time with you." Her tone was an odd mix of
wistful and nervous.

Reaching over, D'kere took one of Talwynn's hands in his own and
pressed a kiss to her fingers, "Nothing is going to change, I
promise."

The pressure of his lips against the scars soothed her, and she
shifted in her chair so she was closer to him. "Thank you," she said
softly. And then to cover up her nerves, she cleared her throat. "So
what were your plans for Turnover? Have you thought about it yet?"

"Not really. What would you like to do?" D"kere asked.

"I'm not sure. I stayed in the last few," she confessed. "I've been
listening to other people talk and apparently many Holds do
festivities. Sunstone has a boat race, Emerald Falls some ball. Had
you heard a good rumor?"

D'kere shook his head, "I don't hear much being around the Weyrlings,
besides them belly-aching about being unable to partake of the wine at
parties." He considered the two things she mentioned. "You know I love
the water, but I'm not sure how interesting boat racers are for those
watching. Have you ever seen one?"

"No, I haven't," Talwynn said. "Think there are better options?"

"I'm open for new experiences. It's either the boats, or the ball
thing at Emerald Falls, as far as we know. You want to ask some of
your friends to see if there are other festivities?" D'kere was
willing to do whatever Talwynn wanted.

"I can bring back a list. Assuming you'll be weyrlings free. And if
you aren't we can stay in and be here."

D'kere smiled and lifted her hand to his lips, "Sounds like a plan."
