T'nom

T'nom

He was still learning his way around Dragonsfall. He wasn't the same
as Dolphin Cove. So when he'd take a right hoping to find a certain
chamber, he'd realize he was thinking of Dolphin Cove. Then he had to
backtrack once again and start over.

T'nom hadn't gotten a space set up in the woodcrafters' rooms yet. He
much preferred to work alone anyway. He'd been told by the Headwoman
that there was a room down these corridors that he could set up his
own woodworking space. It wasn't far from where the other crafters
worked, but it would allow him his own small studio to work on his
craft. In his discussion with the Headwoman he'd agreed to share it
with another if anyone asked for a space, but first he had to _find_ it.

Sitting in her office, Nokala was quietly humming to herself as she graded
assignments. The harper heard a noise but didn't look up since she was used
to such things. Stretched out, she had her long legs propped up on the desk and
was relaxing in her huge chair with a stylus trapped between her lips
as she read.

Frowning, he decided to try another turn. _That_ was when he noticed a
door slightly ajar just down the corridor.

**Well, better than wandering all afternoon,** he mused. Moving
towards the light he could see, he knocked on the door, which swung
open with his knock.

"Hello," he greeted the woman sitting inside.

Her head came up and she was surprised to see a young bronzerider, much
less one that she didn't know. Nokala had made large inroads in learning the
Weyrfolk's names and this perplexed her. She was also curious as to what would
bring him to her door. Another, older, bronzerider came to mind for a
brief moment
before she set down her stylus and focused. "Hello bronzerider. What do you need
of this humble harper hm?"

"T'nom," he supplied his name. "I'm looking for an empty room that the
Headwoman suggested I could turn into a woodcraft area when I'm not on
duty. Apparently it's near here, but I have only managed to miss some
turn here or there in the tunnel."

"Well I've only been here recently myself, so I can't help you much
with direction.
Did she give you a map perhaps?" Those Nokala could read. She moved to get up
out of her chair and straightened up to her full height.

T'nom noticed her height immediately. Not many women stood eye to eye
with him, and truth be told he thought she might have stood even
_taller_ than him!

"Yes, she did," he fished the map out of his pocket. The pencil sketch
was not very detailed. He pointed to the room he was looking for.
"See, I turned here, like it said, but ended up right here. That is
not what it said should happen."

"A mystery then...." She set her things aside and approached to read
and look it over.
It didn't take long. "I think I have it. Let's see, shall we?" Walking
out of her office, she
led him down the corridor and out of the harpers' rooms. They came
back to the main
corridor that led to the crafter quarters and started again from
there. "So what sort of
woodcrafting things do you do?"

He followed, glad someone else was helping with this task. He'd never
gotten quite so turned around before.

"Well, I do just about anything, but my main focus has been more
detailed furniture work. I don't get the time I used to to work on it
now that I've Impressed, but I find it relaxes me after a long day or
a long sevenday of work. And you are a....?" He let the question hang
there hoping she would share a bit more about herself.

"A senior journeywoman," she answered quickly. Nokala did whatever was
needed. She knew she had to pick a subject for her Mastery, but for now she
simply enjoyed teaching. That was sometime off yet she hoped. And anyway
the Hall had female apprentices now but she was sure they would never give
Master knots to a woman.

"That's excellent. I'd like to reach senior rank, myself, but with
being a dragonrider now, I don't the time to devote to my craft the
way I would like," T'nom shrugged. His bond with Taldeth was special
and he wouldn't change that for anything.

"Have you lived here long?" he asked.

Glancing at the doorways, she kept looking down at the map, checking herself
and making sure they were going the right way. "Oh no, only a few months. I'm
from Far Island Weyr. So I know what it's like to come from a tropical
Weyr to the
mountains. Took quite a bit of adjustment." She remembered piling on
the layers of
clothing and burrowing under the furs.

T'nom snorted in agreement, "Aye, isn't that the truth!" Then pausing
he looked up. "Hey, there's the divide in the corridor I was told I
would find. The room is supposed to be right after it." He was
impressed that Nokala had so easily found her way when he'd managed to
turn himself around.

"Then let's check it and see." Walking forward just a bit, she nodded
to herself.
"I think you're here, bronzerider. So have a look around. Do you think
you can find
your way back?" Watching him, she considered him for a moment. New people were
always interesting.

He took stock of his surroundings, then nodded towards the harper. "I
think I can. I really appreciate your help today."

"MM no sweat off my back, but perhaps I might ask you for help someday." With
a small smile, Nokala turned and began walking again down the tunnel, humming
as she did so.
