Description: She congratulates him and answers some questions again.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 12, day 7 of Turn 7
Talwynn was dressed up comparatively nicely in a grey dress. She was
heading to get another glass of wine when she saw one of the new
weyrlings - one she recognized from their conversation a few nights
ago. So she drifted over in his direction.
"Congratulations on Impressing," she greeted.
It was so strange to hear that, and to be talking to so many people he
barely
knew all of a sudden. He was still reeling from everything but he did manage
to recognize her after a few moments. "Thank you mam. I'm still sort of
figuring
it all out. I mean...I didn't think it would happen this time but it did
soo..."
}:His name was Iroth,:{ Riveth supplied.
"Iroth was handsome looking. I'll be interested in seeing how he
grows," she said. "He must have seen how bright and nice you are."
**Bright?** He blinked. No one had ever called him that before. "I don't
know
yet really what he thought, but I'm sure I'll find out tomorrow when
he wakes up."
When she complimented his dragon he couldn't help but feel a little
surge of pride.
He was handsome after all.
"Tomorrow will be fun. Ever handled raw meat before?"
"Yes..back at the farmhold...Well let's just say I had chores early."
That was an understatement.
Milking, help with the slaughtering...then there were other normal
things to be done like minding
the crops and harvesting. He'd welcomed the chance to go to the
vintner hall since it had been an
escape from the everyday toil. "What else will happen tomorrow?" That
he was very curious about.
He had heard so many things.
"Chopping the meat, feeding your dragon, then the beginning of lessons
and some drills. This is going to be the most tiring month. I remember
feeling like I could barely move."
That didn't bode well. Though he supposed it might be easier since it was
mostly physical labor. R'gelen could do physical labor. "I think it's going
to
be harder getting used to someone knowing my thoughts and having to get
to know him. I mean...he's different from me." That was true from the brief
glimpses he'd gotten of his dragonet's mind so far.
"There are times when it was difficult to get used to it," Talwynn
admitted. "Some things you don't want someone else to hear, you know?
I had days when I didn't want anyone to..." She trailed off.
Then she smiled at him, trying not to bring down the mood. "But
they're the other half of us, so it feels more right than it could."
"I guess it would be hard to keep a secret." For a second an irrational fear
struck him-**What if Iroth tells everyone about my Aunt?** Trying to calm
himself, he hoped he could work this out.
"It is," she said softly. "But they're the kind - you don't want them to
know, maybe, but they should know. You'll see."
Turning his head, he saw someone else coming. And he realized he had
taken up quite a bit of her time. "Well greenrider I'll let you talk to your
friends. I've gotta eat before I head back to the barracks and sleep the
night off. Hopefully I won't screw up tomorrow."
"You'll be fine. Don't forget to enjoy the dancing and the food, make this
memory last. And I'll probably see you around a fair bit during
weyrlinghood." Especially if she started helping out...
"Oh that's nice." He didn't care one whit about dancing, much less knowing
how. He was a farmboy for the most part. The food, though... "Thanks! Bye!"
Disappearing into the crowd to round up some food, he hoped she was right.
