Carrying the baby, she headed over to Parme's. Parys was crawling and it
meant the baby's skin was taking a beating and she wondered if Parme had
some lotion Parys could lick at, knowing her.
"Parale, come in dear!" Parme had opened the door before Parale had even had
a chance to knock. She'd just been heading off for a walk, but a visit from
the young mother was another welcome distraction.
"Do you have any lotion for abrasions?" She was trying to make sure there
were rugs or rushes over most of the floor but somehow Parys still managed
to find the empty spots.
"Getting mobile, are we?" Parme grinned, wriggling a finger at Parys. "I
have just the thing for that, let me go fetch it. Meanwhile, have a seat,
you two."
She pulled herself into a chair and put Parys down on the floor. It didn't
take long for the little one to be off, exploring. Parale kept an eye on
her, though, ready to spring forward. Fortunately since Parme had children
there was nothing she could get into really.
Parme was back in a few seconds, a little tube of white lotion in hand.
"This should do the trick. Try it on a bit of unaffected skin first, to
check for signs of rashes or other kinds of irritation."
She nodded her thanks and took the moment to take a rest, something she
didn't get much lately what with a crawling young one. Then of course came
walking and toddler days. Parale didn't know if she would survive it.
"How have you been holding up, dear?" Parme asked gently. She remembered
thinking when Parmash was born that things would get easier once he got
older. How wrong she'd been!
"Ah well, Venrys is a help of course. Syren is all over the place. And now
Parys is following them around. So I just sit and watch them all, moving
when someone gets too close to something." She smiled and shrugged. There
wasn't much else she could do. "It's easier when Ioven's home since they all
want to fall over him. Then I can sit back."
"I'm glad he pulls his weight. It's important for children to have a good
relationship with their father." Though she figured her kids had turned out
alright, she knew nothing she would do could ever fill the void their dad
had left when he died.
"It is but he works a lot so sometimes I wish I could spend more time alone
with him during the precious time he is home. The girls need him too,
though." She sighed and gave a small smile, knowing it sounded childish but
they were still relatively new at being married and Parale did miss her
husband when he was gone.
"It is tough sometimes," Parme nodded. "If the two of you ever want some
time together, you can have the kids stay with me for a while. They're
always more than welcome."
"Thank you for the offer." She smiled and then her eyes lit up when she
remembered she hadn't told Parme yet. "Guess who had dinner with us the
other night?"
"I have no idea," Parme said, smiling with interest at Parale's enthusiasm.
"Do tell, though!"
"The Lady Holder herself!" Parale was proud of it the proof was in her
cheeks and the way she smiled. "The girls liked her though Syren was a bit
much at times. I think she's nice. And she actually eats with real holders."
"You're kidding?" Parme looked at Parale with enthusiasm and a bit of
disbelief. "How did you manage that?"
"I don't know. There was a knock. I opened the door and she was there."
Parale thought about it and decided to be candid. "I think she's lonely and
needs some friends. You know-real people."
"Well, I'm glad she came to you, then," Parme smiled warmly. "She'll have a
valuable friend in you, I know that much."
"Aye well we'll see how it goes-poor girl. Between her and Danrina, I've got
my hands full. And there's Syren and her shenanigans." Parale gave a put
upon sigh and then smiled. "Anyway, at least I'm needed. And Parys is
healthy."
"You're a busy lady," Parme grinned. "And that can be good for a person.
Just be sure you have some time to unwind every now and then too." Parme
patted the other woman's knee.
"Oh sure....Mother says I can rest when they're grown. Then I'll have plenty
of time." She smiled fondly as she thought of her mother whom she missed
quite a bit. "Someday though I'd like to have a son I think."
"You can have one of mine," Parme joked, a grin spreading on her face once
more. "Trust me, sons aren't all they're cracked up to be. Though I do
understand, they're also a bit of... security for the future."
"A son can take care of his parents and his sisters. A son can hold land. A
son can craft." She knew as well as anyone what limits females had. She was
allright with her lot in life though and accepted it just as she would
prepare Syren and Venrys for it later on.
"Exactly," Parme smiled. "You'll have your son, I'm sure. Just don't ever
forget to enjoy your girls."
