Who Is He?

Writers: Eimi, Shelly
Date Posted: 13th February 2006

Characters: Corvera, U'kaiah
Description: Corvera gets a chance to actually speak to U'kaiah
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 9, day 14 of Turn 3

Corvera took her seat among Dragonfall's Wingleaders. This would be her first meeting with them and she was determined to establish a relationship with each of them and get herself updated on the recent happenings of each wing.

As she looked around the table in the time before the meeting began and she was accutely aware that most of them - if not all of them - were older than her. She took time to look at each face and connect it to a name and a dragon. Most of those faces were new to her, but one seemed very familiar. According to Mnaiath his name was U'kaiah, but Corvera was certain she had never met him before. How was he so familiar?

U'kaiah glanced up and caught her eye. He had only really seen her the once, up on the plateau with the wind whipping her hair around. She looked different now. Far less vulnerable, much more like the _Weyrwoman_. He gave her a polite nod and an apologetic half-smile before dropping his eyes to the hide in front of him.

Corvera began the meeting directly and, overall was pleased with it's result. Though she had not stooped to taking notes while each Wingleader had been speaking, she had felt that it would affect her aire of poise; however, she fully intended to return to her weyr and pour the details she was sure to forget within candlemarks. With little extra fanfare, she concluded the meeting and said goodbyes to each rider individually, by name, and with sincerity - saving one, in particular, for last.

"Thank you, Weyrwoman Corvera. It was a pleasure to meet you, and I look forward to working with you." U'kaiah gave her a polite bow and a small though surprisingly genuine smile.

"It was a pleasure to meet you, too." She returned the bow with a graceful nod of her head. "The Wingleaders of Dragonsfall seem to be an extraordinarily capable group; I'm impressed."

"Well, in my case I can say D'wrayt gets all the credit. He was my Weyrlingmaster first." There was a note of pride in the bronzerider's voice. He had always considered himself privileged to be able to say that.

"I'll have to tell him so, then." Corvera desperately wanted to ask if it was him she had seen up on the Plateau, but that would be more than a little tactless; afterall, he if recognized her, he made no sign of it.

U'kaiah could see questions in her eyes, and it was starting to make him feel uncomfortable. He couldn't blame her after the tepid reception he can given her up on the plateau. Still, he didn't like questions. They made him think too much and lately that just hurt. "If there is anything I can do to help you settle in, please feel free to ask."

She was tempted to make a joke about getting him to move furniture for her, but she doubted now was the time for that. "Thank you, I will." And she moved aside so that he could get past her through the door.

"Good day, Lady Corvera," he said with a polite bow, and used the escape offered.

Corvera sat down in the nearest chair with gusto. **Just who _is_ he?**
One thing was for sure, U'kaiah would keep things at Dragonsfall Weyr rahther interesting.
