Physical Description of Persona:
R'fal has unruly, dark curly hair, mischievous brown eyes and a cheerful, innocent smile. He's slender, dark-skinned and around medium height for his age. There's a faint scar on his arm which he got falling from the roof of an storage shed when he was eleven. Despite this incident, he's usually agile and can move very quietly, a skill he learned from hunting although it also comes in useful for exploring places where he shouldn't be.

Emotional Description of Persona:
Bright and curious, but a bit impulsive and reckless, R'fal doesn't really mean to be a troublemaker but often finds himself getting into scrapes of one sort or another. Luckily, he's practiced at inventing excuses and talking his way out of tight spots. As one of the youngest in the family and for a long time the only son, his experience of discipline has been patchy and as a child he often avoided hard or boring work, but being fostered away from his family when he was a teenager kept him from becoming too spoiled. He loves being outdoors and enjoys hunting and gathering supplies as well as his work as a herder.

Since the arrest and conviction of his father, which he believes to have been unjust, R'fal has become withdrawn and reluctant to enjoy himself in any way, and spends most of his spare time studying. Joining the dragonhealers has slowly helped to revive his good humour.

History of Persona:
Renfal grew up in a small farm hold in Emerald Falls territory. His mother was one of the holder's daughters, and his father a herder who'd travelled between holds seeking work before marrying and settling down. His grandparents disapproved of the match as Renfal's father, though charming, tends to be lazy and not entirely honest. He would sometimes disappear for long periods, always coming back without the marks and goods he left with. The return of Thread and the infirmity of his father-in-law meant that he had to stay at home and take over the running of the hold, where he taught his son to gamble, cheat at cards and tell tall stories.

Partly to get him away from this undesirable influence, Renfal was fostered with some of his mother's relations between the ages of twelve and fifteen, after which he returned home to assist his father. Being Searched and Impressing Marlath at his first Hatching came as a great surprise, but R'fal was thrilled, seeing the life of a dragonrider as glamorous and romantic.

As R'fal was approaching the end of weyrling training, disaster struck his family. His father was arrested for aiding a group of holdless bandits, taken to Emerald Falls for trial and found guilty of the crime. He lost his cothold and was sentenced to six months of labour in the mines. R'fal and his mother appealed to the Lord Holder and managed to save the cothold for his younger brother. As part of that arrangement, his sister Telany was fostered at Emerald Falls Hold.

Recently, R'fal has joined the apprentice class for dragonhealers at the Weyr.

After his release from the mines, R'fal's father lived for a short time at his brother-in-law's farm with his wife, but after an argument he left to live with R'fal at the Weyr.
