Triad Weyrs Newsletter
December 2004--Year End Edition
It's that time again and our brand spanking new issue of the newsletter is
here for you! I apologize for the lateness--blame it on your Council
Comms having to find a job and then recover from the job search! ;-)

Here, we post the monthly summaries of plots and posts in all of our
active areas, as well as give info regarding member birthdays, persona
birthdays and open ranker positions. If anyone has suggestions for
improvements or has any questions or requests regarding content, then please
be sure to email me at nici@triadweyrs.org.

And finally, a huge thank you to all the members that have continued
to make Triad Weyrs one of the most long running and successful Weyrs
in fandom and best wishes for the New Year! :-)

DFW News.

Dayla and R'vanil invite Caellin and Yanrik over for dinner in their weyr.
It seems that Caellin and Yanrik are doing better now that they've let each
other know how they feel about one another and their situation.

Halli tripped over riding straps in her hurry to get to the bathing cavern
after drills and sprained her right ankle. She was treated by Arilanna in
the infirmary and told to stay off of it for a sevenday.

D'mari and Trynia seem to be seeing more of each other lately. They were
even practicing more than rock skipping down by the Weyrlake after Trynia
kissed him. R'vanil saw the two together one day and questions D'mari about
it. He tells the brownrider that he just liked her and they left it at that.

Arilanna and Caellin catch up on recent events as both of them had been away
from the infirmary for various reasons. Arilanna had gone to visit her
father and Caellin had been grieving for the loss of her son. Caellin joined
Arilanna for a cup of klah.

Hanni and Sarian watch the male dragonriders down at the weyrlake and
comment on their appearance, reputations, or a personal experience with the

Caellin speaks with Jiyavala about Myiva's condition. The greenrider finds
out that her daughter isn't going to get better. The only thing that can be
done is to treat the symptoms and hope that it helps.

Jaela has taken time out from worrying about her brother and the duties of
the Weyr to visit with Dolphin Cove's Weyrwoman. She and Kalina discussed
their love lives and whether it was wrong to love more than one man at a
time. They came to the conclusion that it was just fine.

RBW News

The month started with Wingsecond K'reyel wanting to spend some time with
his weyrmate, only to find that his bronze had other ideas. Erdenth won
Mavikath's flight, leaving K'reyel to spend time with P'veas, and Mai
visting her fellow harpers.

Master Vintner Arima sent her young granddaughter and apprentice to the
kitchens for some sweetenr, only for Marza to come across Kinea. The two
candidates have fun taste testing Kinear's bubbly pies fresh from the oven.

Bluerider M'van organises a surprise picnic for his mate Kitali and family,
thanks to some help from Kitali's son Lidrin. Baby Talvan enjoyed his first
dragon ride as they all spent some time together on the beach.

Abrei and R'han's relationship seems to be leading the pair to an
understanding of sorts, even if they haven't actually talked about it.

Poor S'ber. His green flit seemed to be out of control and caught the
Weyrleader at a bad moment as she stole some of his meal. S'ber was sent to
the Weyrlingmaster to discuss the matter. J'an lectured the boy on
responsibilities and set him an essay to do. One can only hope that it
keeps him out of trouble for a little while.

K'sedel also discussed the state of the candidates mental health with
Bluerider U'val. It seems that there is only one cause for concern among
them, namely Vykor. U'val seems to think that Tiya has adjusted well since
arriving at the weyr.

Weyrlingmaster J'an has been updating his files on the senior weyrlings in
an effort to help the wingleaders decide on their placements in the wings.
He spent some time thinking about those who would not be graduating with the
class, as well as those who will graduate soon.

DCW News

The gossip continues to focus on the Weyrwoman, Kalina, who has been seen
sneaking away with both J'darin and V'drare again this month - even her
friends O'dan and Jaela couldn't get an explanation from her of what draws
her to the former considering her opinion of T'moran, and she had a bitter
argument with N'klos over her lack of faith in him to replace T'moran as
Weyrleader when Moriath rises again, after the bronzerider found out from
O'dan about the favour she'd shown J'darin. N'klos has had an edgy
conversation with V'drare, also, intent on 'protecting' Kalina from being
hurt by him. The rivalry between the bronzeriders is clearly growing more
and more intense as the senior queen's flight approaches!

Q'dan, the Weyrlingmaster, is a pleasant exception to the tension between
the senior riders - perhaps riding brown has something to do with that. He
and Kaatria are an example to all the feuding couples of the Weyr as to how
a relationship *should* work!

I'lan has a new neighbour and friend - a transfer, T'nes, blue Sorlaith's
rider, to whom the Weyr extends a warm welcome. He's also helped A'rand
adopt a puppy. A'rand also made a new friend in Xuxha, the Weyrlingmaster
Third, who as always has had her work cut out keeping up with the Weyrlings!
Young C'lor is still nervous about talking to girls, and met up with Z'al,
who also offered a little advice to candidate Doren about Impression and
girls. Doren has been keeping busy himself, helping Oria to bathe her
dragon, while Dysali welcomed a new candidate, Dacraslar, to the Weyr.

In more sombre news, a young weyrling, K'win, has discovered that he is the
last surviving member of his family after the hurricane at Topaz Sea Hold
struck. Q'dan, the Weyrlingmaster, is helping him to get through the grief
of his loss, and the whole Weyr offers its sympathy to the young man.
Meanwhile, the Dolphineers have discussed possible new sites for their
ruined Hall with Weyrwoman Kalina, and are eager to get started on moving
into their new home.

The Weyr has hope, however, in the flight of gold Ikoladith last month,
which was won by K'deren's Donneth, and a clutch should be on the Sands
shortly! Now is a great time to create a Candidate and be in with a chance
of Impressing one of Ikoladith's hatchlings.

Garnet Valley seems to be rife with secret plots and goings ons. All seem to
center around the new Headwoman, Verora. Evidently the new resident who now
takes care of the herb garden is Verora's father and is basically
blackmailing her so that he can live in luxury. She's ordered no one to go
see him and when Ryalane visited him, he made excuses about not liking
anyone else in his place.

There's been a cave-in of one of the mines and Sirela seems to have lost
several members of her family. Aswic has been notified and he's going out to
check to ensure that everyone has everything they need. How many will lose
their lives in cave in? It's unknown at this time, but keep reading your
posts to see what happens!

Kellwyn came in from her small hold with some business to take care of and
managed to visit Auren. He immediately dropped everything and planned on
giving her...a full tour.

And finally, word is getting out that the Lady Holder is pregnant. Aswic
told his cousin and had to admit that he wanted Thalia to be happy at Garnet
Valley. Auren quickly got to the bottom of the issue and accused his Lord of
being afraid of her! The Lord couldn't refute the truth.

Ryalane brought Aswic his breakfast one day and got roped into sitting with
him and eating some of his food as he asked her how things were going. She
told him everything was settling in well, and he had nothing to worry about.

On the other side of Garnet Valley, Jerandra has found out about the price
on her head and the fact that her evil plot to kill Lady Enriline didn't
work. She was infuriated and quickly scribed another letter in another plot.
Just who was the letter to and what is she up to?

Lady Anaia is still absent from Emerald Falls, and the Hold is filled with
tension as Lord Enrizial's behaviour is growing more and more unpredictable.
All connections with Amethyst Cliff have been cut off, and the Hold is just
beginning to feel the lack of trade goods - particularly wine. Even the
rumours about a young woman named Chaella and her daughter, who have been
shown particular favour by the Lord Holder, have died down now that she has
departed the Hold.

Enrizial was absent from the Hold for one day when he visited Holder Kohler
at Green Valley, who has been having his own disputes with his guest and
brother-in-law Zathris - though fortunately these were resolved amicably.
Enrizial has agreed to find a holding for Zathris and his wife Leralira to
run, and also checked up on the well-being of his young nephew Cazlik.

Will Lady Anaia ever return to Emerald Falls - and will her baby, who seems
likely to be born at Amethyst Cliff, be the son and Heir that Enrizial hopes
for? Or will the Lord Holder's temper and black moods damage the Hold beyond
repair? And what will happen, in the coming months, when one or two young
women in the Hold try to rebel against the strict traditions that have kept
them from the Crafts for decades? If you'd like to try something different
and be part of our plotting, create a Holder and find out - you'd be very

ACH News:

Well, as promised, life at Amethyst Cliff remains busy, busy, busy!

Preparations were made for the wedding of Lord Alalir and Lady Enriline and
relatives and others arrived for the nuptials.

Among them was Lady Calanna of Opal Cove Hold. She did not waste time in
reacquainting herself with the Hold--or her favorite cousin, Jeralir.
Jeralir, still in mourning for his wife, Jasslara, was no match for
Calanna's seductive wiles and found himself very quickly giving in to her.

Alalir met with his sons before the wedding and announced that he had chosen
an Heir to lead the Hold after his death. To their surprise, it was not his
favorite son, Jeralir but Alajeran who had been chosen. Jeralir took the
announcement with surprising good humor and congratulated his brother and
Lady Lindria.

The eve of the wedding found Lady Enriline suffering from nightmares and
unable to sleep. Luckily Vivvi was there to comfort her, reassuring the
soon-to-be Lady Holder that everything would be all right.

The wedding itself went off without a hitch. The only regrets were from Lady
Enriline who wished that her son could have given her away. Alas, Lord
Enrizial refused to attend and it was the new Heir, Alajeran who gladly
escorted her to the arms of her new husband.

The Lord and Lady of the Hold took the time to sit with Lady Anaia of
Emerald Falls for a time after the nuptials. All expressed their joy at the
union and their worry over the state of Topaz Sea Hold's injured Lord
Holder, Lord Jaryd--currently being cared for at Dragonsfall. The political
ramifications of Jaryd's absence in future Conclave matters was not lost on
Alalir and he reminded both Lady's that their opinions were welcome at any

Lord Alalir announced his choice for Heir at the wedding feast and all were
in agreement that his choice and been sound and also bode well for the
future of the Hold. Alajeran nervously addressed the holders and then the
dancing began!

There were a few illicit meetings during the festivities. Jeralir and
Calanna spent a few salacious moments in a hidden alcove. In a more innocent
meeting, the Hold's harper, Valand, met with Mariss and the two shared a
dance together out of the glare of her father, Steward Cyrek.

Later that night, Enriline and Alalir shared their first night together as
man and wife. The next day, Enriline allowed herself to bask in the
afterglow. Unfortunately, her joy was short-lived. She asked a drudge to
retrieve a brooch she'd gotten for a wedding gift. After touching the
brooch, the drudge collapsed, dead. Guard and a healer were called and
poison suggested. After reading the note that accompanied the brooch, Alalir
was left with the suspicion that his former wife, Lady Jerandra might still
be alive. Dabryn was unable to assuage his concerns, as he had a few of his
own. Alalir immediately requested Jerandra be found, going as far as
drafting an edict requesting her death.

Alajeran and Jeralir both dealt with the news that their mother might still
be alive. Alajeran sought comfort from his wife, which Jeralir went into
hiding with his daughter. Calanna sought out Jeralir and managed to be
surprisingly comforting in the process.

The repercussions of Jerandra being alive were not lost on Alalir or
Enriline. Alalir felt guilty for having possibly dishonored Lady Enriline
and he vowed to rectify matters by appealing to Conclave to dissolve his
marriage to Jerandra.

Lord Enrizial, as expected, descended on the Hold once again, filled with
accusations and anger regarding Alalir's continued sanctuary to Lady Anaia
and the supposed dishonoring of his mother. Even Lindria's presence was not
enough to stop his anger. Alalir, also quite temperamental, met his anger
with his own. Enrizial tore up the trade agreement between them and Alalir
ended all ties with Emerald Falls in kind.

It wasn't soon before Lord Alalir called and emergency meeting of Conclave.
Lord Enrizial reluctantly appeared for it, but made his views regarding
Alalir quite clear to a divided Conclave. He asked that Lord Alalir be
removed from Hold leadership--a move which could have consequences for not
only his mother, but his sister as future Lady Holder. Undaunted, Alalir
refused to back down and accused Enrizial of acting based on personal
feelings, not common sense. He left the meeting, and let the other Lords of
the South vote on his future role as Lord and the status of his marriage to
Jerandra. The Lords, after some discussion, voted in his favor on both
votes. Disgusted, Enrizial quickly quit the hold. Lord Aswic of Garnet
Valley was there to tell Alalir the news and also spend some time with him
after the meeting.

Alalir met with Hallmaster Fielton of the Vintner Hall to let him know of
his embargo against Emerald Falls. While the Hallmaster was not happy, he
agreed with the Lord Holders request. Lord Alalir promised agreements with
other Holds to make up for the loss of the lucrative agreement with Emerald

In a less serious meeting, Lady Calanna was reluctant to go home, but
managed to be distracted by Jeralir once more before she _did_ go home.

Wow, what a month! A heartfelt thank you to all of the rankers at Amethyst
Cliff hold for making it such a busy month, filled with intrigue, romance
and mystery!

We'd still love you have more folks join us for all the fun. Check out our

EFH-HH News:

The Harper Hall is subdued and sad this month after losing one of its oldest
and most respected Masters this month in Gridis, the Master Vocalist. He
passed away peacefully in the gardens outside the Hall while listening to a
student sing a song written by his wife.

Miranek, the Master Healer from Emerald Falls Hold, visited Hallsecond
Ryndel with his wife Helvalla to discuss the possibility of his daughter
Helan studying there, and they decided that the girl should visit herself to
see if she wished to join the other female students.

Hallmaster Gilas had a reflective moment while painting, when he remembered
his old friend Master Filomor.

There are plenty of great opportunities for plotting at the Harper Hall,
which is at the centre of a clash between the traditionalists who support
the ban on women in the crafts, and those who think the ban has outlived its
use. Lord Enrizial, who believes the harpers interfere too much with his
Hold and family, is determined to restrict the crafters, while Hallsecond
Ryndel is anxious to work against him...with or without the permission of
his Hallmaster. And little by little, young women are finding ways to learn
more than they should despite being restricted from formal apprenticeship.
New personas are always welcome here, so create a harper or a student today!

The Hallmaster's daughter is causing some excitement at Vinter Hall. After
returning from the Weyr with a few new ideas on her place in the world,
Fieayz wandered into a classroom and tried to impress the apprentices with
her knowledge and maybe gain a bit of her own.

Her new interest did not amuse her father, who has forbidden her to enter
the classroom wing of the Hall and made it clear that he'll be looking for
young men to marry her before too much longer.

If the Hallmaster seems more stressed than usual (and isn't that a scary
thought?) you only need to look to the rift between Emerald Falls and
Amethyst Cliff to find out why. Lord Alalir and Alajeran visited Fielton to
inform him of an embargo of wine products to Emerald Falls. The loss of
income isn't making Fielton sleep any better at night.

Vinter Hall needs a Hallsecond who can put up with a troubled Hallmaster and
has an adoptable Master of Apprentices who is getting on in turns and
starting to slow down. Now's a good time to join Vinter Hall and get in on
the excitement!

If you are an L1 or ranking member, there are no excuses for not checking!

If unsure ever regarding a mentees status, or whether a post has been
please check with the noted mentor (info provided on the site) or Nici, as

Please remember that Triad Weyrs is very strict regarding Pern canon--and
especially of those rules set down by AM herself. Please remember to be
careful when preparing posts to check for canon errors. This is for
newbies and older members as well!

Please go to the following links to review the canon rules for Triad Weyrs.
Rankers and oldbies too--we can all use a refresher from time to time! :-)
