D'hol waited patiently beside Yumath as he watched the pair of dragons
land in the Barrier Lake Weyrbowl. Yumath rumbled a greeting to the
familiar pair, his eyes whirling with interest. Clad in Barrier Lake
Weyrhold's new colors, a fresh set of knots on his shoulder, D'hol
waited until the dragons settled before approaching. "Welcome to
Barrier Lake."

She'd already visited but smiled and took his hands to offer her
cheek. "It's beautiful," she said. "Congratulations."

"Congratulations, D'hol," N'vanik said, standing just behind his
Weyrwoman. He'd been hoping for K'ran to win, but the man had risked
everything to prevent a battle between two Queens. To the Red Star
with Ashela! N'vanik pushed that train of thought away before it could
darken his expression. Circumstances aside, he was happy for D'hol.

D'hol kissed Cyradis' cheek warmly, squeezing her just a little before
turning to face N'vanik. He offered his hand. "Thank you. I think our
Headwoman has a meal set out for us with some klah. Let me show you to
our Dining Hall."

She turned her head to kiss his cheek and smiled as he reached out to
N'vanik. "I'm famished," she said taking N'vanik's arm.

"It should prove to be a good meal. I believe it's fresh wherry roast
and broiled fish with vegetables and fresh rolls. I asked for a berry
tart as well as some citroncello.." D'hol led them towards the
building, which was still showing signs of being freshly completed,
and gestured to the ongoing construction of the other buildings.
"They're working on the hospital over there as well as the crafthalls
for the Weyrhold. The hydroelectric dams are also almost completed" He
looked at N'vanik and Cyradis. "And we're still working on piping in
the hot water from the springs to the weyrs as they're built. It'll be
a few turns before it's all completed, but the work moves at a good
pace."

"It's coming along fast." N'vanik looked around, impressed with how
much work had been done already.

Cyradis smiled at the menu even as her eyes roamed the building. "It's
really amazing" she smiled. "Do you imagine Dolphin Cove once looked
new?"

"I suppose everything was new once, though that was a long, long time
ago," N'vanik said.

"If you ever have time," D'hol gestured to one of the large hills that
seemed to steam steady fog in the morning air, "there's natural hot
springs right there. The water is burning hot at the top of the hill,
but some of our crew has built several soaking pools at the base of
the crest there where it's cooled off just enough to soak in. Our
smiths say it's heavy in ore minerals and it helps with sore muscles;
I'm looking forward to trying once winter really sets in." His lips
lifted. "By the time it reaches our bathing pools, it's significantly
cooler, but some like the heat."

He brought them into the Dining Hall and led them to the leaders'
dias. The wood smelled freshly oiled and everything was bright,
lacking the patina of age that Dolphin Cove's had. "I admit that
Dolphins Cove has that steady, permanent feel to it. It seems more
secure and more stable. But this," he gestured to the building with
evident pride, "feels energetic to me. Young and full of
possibilities."

N'vanik looked at him with a crooked smile. "I never imagined you
being the gracious host, but here you are." D'hol's pride for his new
Weyr was obvious and he hoped some of that warmth would be shared with
the people here.

"We'll have to try that," Cyradis smiled up at both men who were
significantly taller than she was. She didn't get the feeling they
were talking over her head, like she had in the past, but that they
were actually getting along. "It's a beautiful Weyr D'hol," she said.
"I'm proud for you. Now, let's eat!"

N'vanik's words brought a low chuckle and as they sat at the table, he
waited until they were served the roast and broiled fish. He gestured
to the spirits that had been brought. "Cintroncello and some ale. One
of the crafters here brews it on his own. It's actually quite good. "I
don't imagine you did, N'vanik. I never had the reason to be. But
there'll be more at the Hatching of course. Jayzine is a remarkably
good Headwoman. And no, you can't steal her away."

"That's a shame." N'vanik turned to smile at Cyradis. "I'm sure we'll
be able to lure someone to our tropical paradise soon."

"That would be very good, and the sooner the better," she lifted her
glass and held it out to D'hol. "I think I need to check out the
Citroncello."

"Of course." D'hol poured her a glass, offered N'vanik the bottle,
but poured himself a glass of cool water instead. "Since you're the
guests, I'll leave it to either of you to make a toast. "

"Ladies first," N'vanik smiled at his Weyrwoman. Besides, she'd known
D'hol for much longer and as complicated as their relationship was,
N'vanik knew she genuinely cared for the man.

She smiled at N'vanik with genuine affection and lifted her glass to
D'hol. "May the wind be always at your back and Thread fall in
predictable patterns. May you and Kapera form a great partnership and
your Weyr prosper."

"Thank you. I can drink to that." D'hol raised his glass of water in salute.
