Description: Urlene and Olwinna discuss mindhealing and bedside manner
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 11, day 20 of Turn 9
"Hi, Urlene," Olwinna greeted her fellow healer. "I haven't had a
chance to congratulate you yet, master," she grinned, sincerely happy
for her fellow healer's success. Out of the two women, Olwinna was
older. But she also had two children and it was harder to impress
people with your skills when you were mindhealer.
Urlene looked up from her cup of klah as Olwinna greeted her.
"Olwinna, thank you." She offered a brief, but proud smile. "I
appreciate it. I'm still wrapping my mind around the knots myself."
She glanced at the new cords on her shoulders, then back at the other
woman. "I'm sure I'll get used to them pretty quickly. I'm supposed to
teach more now."
"Yes, teaching, that comes with the rank," Olwinna flashed an amused
smile. "You think you can do it without killing any apprentices?"
Urlene's lips lifted slightly. "Without killing them? Most likely."
She thought of her own ambitions." Most aren't really interested in
surgery though, so Pacham is doing much of the teaching, especially
with diagnosis." She sipped her cup of klah. "You teach as well, don't
you?"
"Yes, mindhealing. Not many apprentices interested is specializing to
it. But I give basic lessons during their basic training. I've also
given candidate and weyrling classes," Olwinna replied. She went to
pour her a mug of klah too.
"Hmm. I have to admit, I didn't study it as much as I should have."
Urlene considered that. "Perhaps we all need brushing up on our basic
mindhealing skills." She tapped her mug. "I'm not much of a people
person, to be honest, I don't really consider how their minds work
when their injured, but I'm sure that it has an effect on their
treatment and how they heal."
"Yes, it does has an effect. I do general healing besides mindhealing
and see it a lot," Olwinna replied. "For example, if you're depressed,
your body also seems to work slower."
Urlene nodded. "I think I recall being taught that." She frowned.
"Tell me, would you be willing to teach me a little bit more? I think
having that knowledge might help me a little with some of my
interactions with people. I admit that I'm not too good with them
until they're unconscious."
"Sure, I'll be glad to help you out," Olwinna promised.
"Thank you. When can we start?"
"When do you have free time in your schedule?" Olwinna asked. Her
schedule tended to be rather full, despite there being several
mindhealers at the Weyr.
"Usually in the evenings. I don't have the family that you have." She
admitted. "I don't want to take away from yours, of course. Just
whenever you're free should be fine."
"I'm sure I can squeeze time for you, after the shift is over and
before the evening meal," Olwinna replied.
"I would greatly appreciate it." She offered her hand to Olwinna. "Thank you."
"You're welcome, I gladly help a collegue," Olwinna replied.
