Best Decision of My Life

Writers: AmajoS, Ames
Date Posted: 26th May 2019

Characters: Lisadi, Saranni
Description: The two women chat about life at EFH
Location: Emerald Falls Hold
Date: month 10, day 13 of Turn 9

Saranni was sitting outside today to do her needlework. After
Threadfall yesterday and a thunderstorm both, it felt good to sit
outside on a pleasant day. She wasn't the only person who felt that
way, apparently. Several other women, some of Blood and some not, were
all gathered in this shady spot to do their own work, whether it was
embroidery or mending. Nearby a gaggle of children played a loud game
with a ball.

She noticed the woman closest to her peering over at the group of
children occasionally, and surmised at least one of them looked to
her. "They seem to be having fun," she commented.

"Oh they always have a good time these days. You'd think they were all
family." Lisadi snorted. She had been watching Westyn's children along
with her own for over a month now. "I'm just glad they are out _here_
doing that instead of in their quarters. You should see what they all
do when they are locked up together inside! I'm Lisadi, by the way.
You're fairly new here, right?"

"Fairly new, yes." She offered a pleasant smile. Her mother had always
taught her that getting to know the people of a Hold was an integral
part of learning how to manage it. "I've only been here a little over
a month."

"So, what do you think of Emerald Falls so far?" Lisadi asked,
glancing up at the group of children, taking a quick count to make
sure all were still accounted for, and then turning her attention back
the younger woman.

"It is quite lovely, though I do miss being closer to the shore," she
allowed herself a wistful smile. She was a bit homesick, to tell the
truth.

"I remember when I first came. I, too, missed my home for a time, but
then I found so many things about Emerald Falls to love. Now, I
couldn't imagine being anywhere but here." Lisadi smiled happily. "Do
you have family here?"

"No, none of my family came with me." Her siblings were all married
with their own families started or working on their apprenticeships
and her parents were too busy with the minor hold. She'd managed to
convince her mother she was old enough to come without a chaperone or
she'd have been stuck with one of her cousins or aunts.

She was thinking of taking her mother up on the offer she'd made to
have one of the drudges who'd been assigned as maid-servant to her and
her sisters sent though. She wasn't as comfortable with a stranger
doing her hair and tying her into dresses and she was getting tired of
doing it herself.

"It's hard to be here on your own. That's how it was when I first
arrived. Just me." Lisadi glanced over at the children playing and
smiled, "In the end coming here was the _very_ best decision I made in
my life."

"I hope it will be for me as well," Saranni replied with a small
smile. If she played the game correctly, it would be the best thing
both for herself and her family.

Lisadi smiled at the younger woman. "I'm sure all will turn out well.
If you ever need anything, feel free to find me. I'd be very happy to
help, anytime."

"Thank you," Saranni returned the friendly smile, before returning her
attention to her embroidery.
