Jeyme
Jeyme

After a good candlemark of dancing and a drink, Haroon had to leave
Jeyme's side to greet his niece and give her his congratulations. But
the new dragonriders could not be away from their new lifemates for
too long, and the runner was in truth relieved when she had to go back
to her new barracks.

He searched the cavern for his pretty partner and saw her sitting
alone, sipping at a drink and tapping her feet to the music. Sneaking
up behind her, he cupped his hands over her eyes and leaned down to
whisper in her ear, "Waiting for anyone in particular, Wingthird?"

Jeyme had been relieved for a little break, to rest her feet and be
able to have some wine and do the thing she loved most, people-watch.
That's when hands had covered her eyes and a familiar voice had spoken
in her ear. "Ah, just my dancing partner," she said, a smile curving
her lips.

"You're in luck," he said, taking his hands away from her eyes. "Your
handsome and mysterious stranger has returned to you!" Haroon slipped
into seat next to hers. His leg just happened to bump up against
hers. "What have you been doing to entertain yourself in my absence?"

"Let's see, I danced with C'rin, and then R'kehr, and then I collapsed
over here to let my feet rest and have some wine. From here I've
watched two best friends break up, storm out, make-up, and come back
in to party some more." Jeyme grinned a little as she took another sip
of her drink, her leg bumping against Haroon's in return. "What about
you? How did it go with your niece?"

"I would say she a bit shellshocked, but deliriously happy. Does that
sound about right? Being that I myself have no experience with
Impressing a dragon..." This time he let his leg linger purposefully
against hers.

Jeyme nodded at the description, "I think that about sums it up. I was
searched the day before the eggs Hatched here at Dolphin Cove. It was
a whirlwind for me."

"The unexpected can be the best," he smiled, dropping his hand to rest
on his knee, and by doing so, his pinky brushed against hers. "I've
always been one to embrace the spontaneous and unexpected."

The greenrider could take a hint. It had been a long time since she'd
done anything spontaneous or unexpected... Come to think of it, had
she _ever_ been spontaneous? No, the word didn't really describer her.
Jeyme tended to over think everything, and she'd always been the
responsible type, which was how she'd ended up at Emerald Falls,
waiting for Lady Felyna to make a marriage match for her, until she'd
been Searched anyway.

Well, not tonight. Tonight, she didn't have to overthink anything, the
children were with their foster mother, and Haroon was good company.

"My weyr isn't too far away," she smiled.

At the invitation, his hand boldly slid over to her leg. "Are you
trying to tell me that I might get a taste of even more Dolphin Cove
hospitality this evening?"

"I believe you will, Runner. It's time to see if your moves in the
bedroom are as good as they were on the dance floor." Jeyme set her
glass of wine aside and stood.

"Well, I'm a pretty good dancer so I'll have to pull out my best moves
to live up to that challenge." Haroon grinned as he rose to his feet.
He liked this dragonwoman's style. "Lead the way, greenrider."

It was the first time Jeyme had ever brought a near stranger to her
weyr, much less her bed, anyone else she had ever been with had been a
weyrmate, or a flight winner. **Time to live on the edge a little,
Jey.** She told herself as she led the way inside and unshuttered a
basket of glows, the smell of the ocean wafted through Quinneth's
weyrledge where it was brought on a breeze from the outside ledge.
"Here we are."

Haroon had to fight the urge to poke around. He had never been in a
private weyr before. His eyes instantly drifted to the curtain,
outside of which he imagined might be her dragon if all the stories he
had heard were true. But it was not his curiosity that was demanding
to be satisfied. Wrapping his fingers around the greenrider's hips,
he pulled her close into his body and leaned down, his lips hesitating
just a hairs breath from hers before he moved in to kiss her lips
softly.

Jeyme was surprised by how nicely she fit against the man's body, but
the feel of him, lean and muscled, was delicious. She looped her arms
around his neck and deepened the kiss.

He like the way she kissed. It wasn't rushed, nor was it timid. He
decided to enjoy the feeling a while. They had left the festivities
rather early, and so there was no reason to hurry anything. His hands
traveled up and down her back as he proved that his lips and tongue
could be every bit as nimble as his feet. As his heart beat grew
faster to match his quickening breath, he reluctantly pulled back just
far enough that he could look down into her eyes to make a simple
admission. "I'm married."

The words jarred Jeyme and she froze as she whispered, "Why are you
telling me that right now?" Haroon being married sent her spiraling
back to D'hol and Kapera. Hadn't she left her weyrmate because he'd
stepped out of their relationship with Kapera? Could she really be
"the Kapera" here while this man's wife was waiting for him back at
home?

"I'm telling you because I like you, and I want to be honest with
you," he said softly, reaching up to caress her soft cheek with his
thumb. "We were married when we were very young, and the fire in the
relationship cooled quickly as we grew older. But we had children and
so we couldn't just go our separate ways. We stay married but we are
little more than roommates. We understand that when we are not in the
Hold together we are free to seek out other company." Shards, he
hoped that he hadn't ruined their entire evening by telling her.
"Does it bother you?"

Jeyme felt a trickle of relief, and her eyes slid closed as she shook
her head. An open relationship, that she could deal with, as long as
she wasn't wrecking someone's home or marriage. "No, it doesn't bother
me, I'm sorry, it's just... It was the last thing I was expecting you
to say, I guess."

He gave a soft snort of understanding as his fingers curled around her
neck, gently massaging. "Well, no matter how things go for the rest
of the evening, I can already tell you that if ever have a chance to
come back to the Weyr, I would like to see you again. I figured it
was better to get it out in the open before I got your clothes off
rather than after."

"I admire your honesty, Haroon," and she really did, most men would
probably have said nothing, or assumed that since she was a greenrider
she wouldn't care. "Now, where are my manners? I believe you are owed
a tour of my weyr," Jeyme leaned up and murmured in his ear, "and it
starts in the bedroom."
