A Moment, Sir?

Writers: Leigh M-F., Paula
Date Posted: 9th June 2017

Characters: Eionen, Eilomar
Description: Eionen has a chance for a change of pace; with luck, Eilomar has suggestions on what to do about it.
Location: Harper Hall
Date: month 12, day 10 of Turn 8

In his time at the Harper Hall, Eionen hadn't needed to visit Eilomar in official capacity too often. They were more likely to meet at dinner unless something had come up with lesson plans. But with the Hallmaster being a busy man, it made this morning visit to Eilomar's office needed. Hopefully it wasn't too early. If it was, hopefully the tray with two mugs and a small carafe of klah would smooth things over. Not wanting to dally too long, he knocked.

"Please, come in!" Eilomar called, glad of the interuption. He was busy compling and choosing list of songs for the choir's Turn's End performances. A boring and tendious task, where everyone seemed to have an opinion and various Lords and Ladies making requests.

Eionen did as bidden, eyes widening at the sight of all the work on Eilomar's desk. "It looks like I brought this with good reason," he commented, looking for a clear place to set the tray. "Have I caught you at a bad time, Mastersinger?"

"With the approaching Turn's End? This time of the Turn is always bad time," Eilomar replied with a snort. He made room in his desk for the tray. "Everyone wants a performance and everyone wants their favourites. And I'm the one who has to coordinate all those wishes."

"I can only imagine that's a special sort of torture," Eionen said, pouring klah and passing his colleague one of the mugs. "But certainly you're capable of managing it."

"I have a long experinece of it," Eilomar beamed under the praise. Best way to get to his good side was to stroke his ego.

It wasn't quite the opening the journeyman needed, but he took it. "Do you also have experience with advising harpers on possible transfers?"

"While I have no official capasity when it conserns transfers, I am always willing to share my experience and advice with a friend," Eilomar replied.

"That would be very appreciated, Mastersinger," Eionen said. "Next year, we'll have several journeymen ready to take teaching positions here and elsewhere, while others' contracts will end and they'll seek new ones. I thought, perhaps, that would be a good time to look for at least a temporary contract, perhaps at the Hold proper. It's not that I'm dissatisfied here, mind," he quickly added, "but many of my students are progressing to the point where they might need a different teacher soon."

"Are you looking for contract in some particular place? I've heard few things, like that the journeyman assigned for Emerald Falls Hold has requested a leave of absence from his duties. He has some special project in his mind, for a masterhood."

Eionen shook his head. "No, nowhere in mind. That was something I hoped you could suggest. Is this journeyman one who teaches instruments and musical composition? Those are two of the only things I _can't_ do."

"No, he gives basic lesson for the Hold's children. Including the Lord Holder's," Eilomar replied.

"Oh, that I could do," the journeyman said in relief. "How would I go about trying for the spot?"

Truth to be told, Eilomar had only vague idea how it was handled, since such things never concerned him. "I suppose you need to express your interest towards the position to the Hallmaster or Hallsecond."

"Then I best get to them while it's early and I'm able to do so." Eionen quickly quaffed his klah and stood, bringing the cup with him. "Thank you very much for your advice, Mastersinger. It's greatly appreciated."

"You are welcome, Eionen," Eilomar replied with his usual pompous tone.
